RCS FRESHMAN: SOCCER STARHaley McWhirter was selected last year to participate in the US Development Soccer Academy for the Houston Dash which is under guidance of the U.S. Soccer Federation.  As the national governing body of soccer in the United States, and under the auspices of the United States Olympic Committee, they are empowered and charged with developing the teams that represent the United States in all international competitions such as the Olympics and World Cup. The Development Academy is designed to facilitate the development and identification of prospective Olympic and Youth National Team players.  This is the only team of its kind in the Houston area for girls and Haley is one of only 16 girls in the Houston area selected for this honor in her age group.

Haley practices nearly 20 hours a week with games on the weekend.  Her commitment to her sport is remarkable.  She has travelled already this season to Dallas, Austin, Kansas City and Colorado to play against the “best of the best.”  She will be heading to Florida in December for a large showcase tournament, followed by one in North Carolina and in San Diego.   She is characterized as a “creative and explosive” player.   Don’t let size fool you – she is a quiet giant when she is out there attacking the ball.  Good luck Haley this season!

LIL' PUMPKINSOur kindergarten students recently spent some time learning about pumpkins.  They worked in groups to measure their pumpkins and made observations about the outside and inside of their pumpkins. They also discussed whether the pumpkins would sink or float and then tested it out.
