Comic Book Artist
by Pat Lyderson

Directed by Mrs. Clark

WHEN:  June 3-7 from 10am - 3pm, with a performance on the 7th at 5:30 PM.
WHERE:  At Rosehill Christian School, In BLDG H, on the stage and in the Drama classroom
WHO: Students who are entering 3rd through 8th grade.
COST:  $200 per child (includes full week of fun activities, costume pieces, cast t-shirt, and all rights and royalties to publisher AND a performance!)
ACTIVITIES:  In addition to working on their performance, students will be learning the basics of safe stage combat, as well as creating and painting their own set for the show.

Everyone loves comic book superheroes, so both cast and audience will love this action-packed spoof of the comic book genre complete with hysterical singing superheroes and dancing villains.  Stanley Leonardo Sappovitz wants nothing more than to become a comic book artist and create heroes and villains for the comic books he loves so much.  As the janitor at Wonder Comics, he anxiously awaits the day that his boss, D.C.  Wunderman, will see his drawings and give him the chance to have his superheroes come alive on the printed page.  Stanley’s heroes come alive, all right — but not on the printed page!  In an effort to revive his faltering company, Wunderman had ordered a set of magical pens guaranteed to bring to life any character drawn.  When plans go awry and his staff of artists unwittingly create the dreaded super-villain Doctor Shock Clock, it is up to Stanley to save the day with his own superheroes — charismatic but egotistical Star Guy, speedy Triple Time, environmentally correct Blossom, and cranky little Wombat Woman!  Stanley’s heroes battle Shock Clock and his henchmen, the Minutos, only to be saved in the end by the greatest superhero of them all — Eraser Man (aka Stanley Leonardo Sappovitz)!

What are the themes?

June 10-14:  Treasure Hunters

Last year, so much happened as we accomplished the greatest task we could ever imagine. We were under a second attack by the infamous alien Commander Zorg, who teamed up with our longtime arch-nemesis, the skilled and cunning Madame X (Lex Luthor’s granddaughter).  Camp Eagle was able to defeat BOTH villains once and for all and send them to “The Phantom Zone”, an inescapable outer-space jail! However, just when we thought it was safe, we received a letter from Madame X, letting us know that her cousin, Dr. Quigley Luthor Alexander (aka “Doctor Q”), a world traveler, history expert, and treasure hunter, has in his possession half of the map to a great and powerful treasure buried on our campus.  The other half of the map is also located at Camp Eagle (hidden by Dr. Q’s mother), using a series of encoded clues, secret codes, and invisible ink to hide its location.  Once again, Superman needs our help! It’s up to us to find and solve clues, and crack the codes that will lead us to the other half of that map, to ultimately beat the greatest Treasure Hunter ever, at his own game.  We MUST find the unknown treasure before Dr. Q does! And, just like in previous adventures, there is rumor of a traitor or traitors in our midst. Be a part of the dawning of a new era--an epic adventure like no other!  Calling all Treasure Hunters who are ready to accept this challenge of “history meets mystery meets adventure” in Camp Eagle--TREASURE HUNTERS!

Field Trip:  There is a piece of the puzzle--something Dr. Q wants--at “The Children’s Museum of Houston”.  Come search with us!

June 17-21: The Great Movie Machine!

Last year, our old friend (ex-super villain turned hero) Dr. Doom, decided to give us a one day mission: to save our previous counselor McCray--he had been sent into the movie “Space Jam” and we had to find a way to get him out!  Dr. Doom had created an amazing invention--The Great Movie Machine--it actually sends people inside their favorite movies! Dr. Doom told us that if we saved McCray in time, we could use the machine five times this summer for an incredible week-long journey into our favorite movies!   Walk through the Great Movie Machine--and who knows where you’ll end up! Each day will land you smack dab into the middle of the movie, where your counselors will become the characters as the movies come to life before your very eyes! There will be scenes, games, trivia, secret snacks, and all sorts of  surprises based on each movie. And each day will be a totally different and unique movie experience. But which movies will they be? There is only one way to find out! Join us--at THE GREAT MOVIE MACHINE!

Field Trip:  On Wednesday, you’ll be swept into the movie “Madagascar” (which is disguised as the Houston Zoo!)

July 8-12:   “Videogame Ville” Volume 2:  The Mystery Continues

An amazing adventure began last year when we traveled through a portal in Aslan’s Wardrobe into “Videogame Ville” where your favorite video games come to life!  We ultimately defeated the VVV (Videogame Ville Villain), Wolf O’Donnell, who in reality was Jadis’ wolf from Narnia, Maugrim, who we trapped with (with Aslan’s help) with Jadis in the land of Charn. The exact moment, however, that we thought all was well in Videogame Ville, we received a video from another villain, VVV2, who thanked us for getting rid of Maugrim so that he/she could take over as the true ruler of Videogame Ville. The VVV2 invited us to play his/her game, this summer!  That’s right, this new VVV2 will be committing crimes, and is threatening to take over and destroy Videogame Ville, forever! It’s up to us to play the unknown villain's video game, by collecting hidden jewels throughout the land, and by finding Aslan’s Chalice, a new chalice that the VVV2 is looking for, and we must find it first!  Whoever finds the chalice and unlocks its secret power, wins the game! Of course, gaming teams will also need to figure out the identity, backstory, and motive of the VVV2.  To do this, they will search for clues, find evidence, and vindicate villains live from our villain gameboard.  Which video games do you want to play, for real??  It’s an all-new video game, mystery extravaganza!  Remember, play, and experience in front of your eyes the video games that you love in a fun, non-scary way right here in…“Videogame Ville” Volume 2:  The Mystery Continues.

Field Trip:  Put your video game skills to the test while you hunt for clues at Main Event in Katy

July 15-19:  Olympic Games VII:  Texas Pride

As Olympians these past six seasons, we have played as countries, states, continents, planets, and even Biblical tribes.  We have experienced victory and, at times, defeat. We’ve learned the meaning of teamwork, and what it truly means to “win”.  In 2019, we will move “home” to the most beloved cities in our great state of Texas! Come enter our Olympic Arena once again, but this time, it will be a competition of “Texas-sized” proportions!  As Texas cities, we will compete in various games, create team shirts, think up chants, design “Texan banners”, cook foods in a “Texas bake-off”, and participate in our daily “Trivia Quest” as we learn facts about the Lone Star State.  Campers will be placed on teams and will rotate and compete with their teams (and their counselor) for the entire week. Olympians--you are summoned to light the torch once again as six (of the many) Texas cities compete for a chance to work together and stand on the podium at our daily closing ceremonies and medal celebrations. Which six cities will make the list?  And which city truly is the greatest? Come find out as Texas and Olympics collide in: “Olympic Games VII: Texas Pride”. Our camp adventure concludes with the highly anticipated all-night campout on July 19 with a campfire, s’mores, secret games (TBA), and a classic game of Capture the Flag in the dark on the football field (with glow sticks).

Field Trip:  Houston Premier Sports “Battle of Texas” Tournament (part of competition)
