Eagles Varsity Football Soar to 5-0

The Rosehill Christian Eagles recorded another victory on Saturday with a 49-0 victory over
Calvary Christian in Fort Worth. The RCS jumped out to a 35-0 lead at the half. The Eagles won the toss and elected to defer, so Brady Ward kicked his 1st of four kickoffs into the endzone for a touchback. Calvary drove the ball into Eagles territory before being forced to punt.

The Eagles drove 65 yards for a score when Trevor Manning completed a short pass to Jake Howorth who lateraled the ball to Hans Barrios for 30 yards and the score. Ward added the PAT and the Eagles were up 7-0. Trevor Manning scored later in the quarter on a 41 yard keeper and Ward tacked on the extra point.  Manning added another touchdown on a 17 yard run and once again Ward’s kick was true.

On the next Calvary possession Ben Nicholson intercepted a Calvary pass and four plays later Barrios scored again. Ward added the PAT and the score was 28-0.

The Eagles forced a three and out and Calvary snapped the ball over the punters head. The Eagles tackled him at the 30 yard line. Manning went right to work on first down when he threw a 30 yard strike to Barrios for a touchdown. The PAT was good and the Eagles led 35-0 at the half.

The Eagles took the second half kick-off and promptly marched 67 yards to the end zone with Manning going the final 35 yards on a keeper. The Eagles defense continued to be stingy recording their 4th shutout in 5 games. They forced 3 turnovers and held Calvary to negative yards rushing. Nicholson recorded his 3rd interception of the season tying him with Jake Howorth for the team lead. Manning, Barrios, and Vonte Green were the leading tacklers with 8,6, and 4 respectively.

The Eagles offense continued to be potent scoring on 7 of 9 possessions. The Offensive Line (Will Grudzeckie, Xavier Tabano, Tommy Dyal, Nate Crawford, and Braeden Kobza) opened up holes for a 260 yard rushing performance. Manning (108), Barrios (64), and Kyle Floris (50) were the leading rushers. Howorth recorded 3 catches for 55 yards and Nicholson had 2 for 33 yards.

The Eagles begin District play this week against Legacy Prep at Home. Game time is 7:00 and it is a Pink Out game for Breast Cancer Awareness.
