PREPARING FOR STATE
As our cross country runners prepare the state championship, the last two scheduled high school meets have enabled the cross country team to match up very well against some very competitive teams. Racing against 40 other teams this past weekend at the St. John ‘s Invitational, the Rosehill runners had several solid performances with Brandon Shoemaker leading the boys squad with a 5K time of 18:20. Brandon’s time ranks him 5th amongst other TAPPS cross country runners in the state. In the girls 3200 meter race, Bailey Kedrick and Mackenzie Frye lead the girls team, clocking 13:35 and 14:01 respectively. As a result of their strong runs, Bailey is currently ranked 4th and Mackenzie is ranked 9th on the TAPPS state poll.
The previous week, the cross country team travelled to the Unviersity of Arkansas where they competed in the prestigious Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival. In this meet our runners competed with athletes from 7 other states. The boys lined up in a field of more than 800 runners; the girls’ race included more than 500 runners! The race experience proved to be very valuable as each Rosehill athlete finished with a personal best in the 5K run. The following times were recorded by each runner:
Brandon Shoemaker 18:11
Jacob Filip 19:58
Connor Courier 20:42
MacKenzie Frey 22:51
Cambring Drake 26:01
Madeline Johnson 27:11
MacKenzie’s 5K time is currently 2nd in the state!!
With the challenging competive schedule that our runners have faced during the past 2 weeks, it is hoped that their race experience will prepare Rosehill’s athletes for their best race at the state meet in Waco!
