Language Arts: The study of phonics, reading manuscript writing, listening, speaking, and written communication.

Arithmetic: Course provides instruction, practice and evaluation of many concepts, including numbers concepts from one through on hundred, place value, numeral formation, number words, solving problems, measurement, geometric concepts, probabilities and statistics, basic operations, simple combinations, money, and telling of time.

Science/Health: The study of God’s creation to learn more about Him, the world He created and man integrated with health and social studies. Students begin to develop skills of asking questions, gathering information, communicating findings, and making informed decisions. Designed to introduce and motivate children to take care of the body God has given them, the course includes training in safety, manners and awareness of God’s creation.

Bible: The study of the Word of God, to lead and instruct children to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through Bible stories and to reinforce personal character and Christian family living.

| First Grade |
Language Arts: To master phonics rules, to understand authors and content, God and people. Also to stimulate thinking, decoding, repetition and reinforce skills learned. Introduction to parts of speech, writing process, and by using spelling rules, phonics, and sight words.

Arithmetic: Designed to strengthen the mind by exercising the ability to think and remember. The students learn to begin at the concrete and move to the abstract. They learn basic computation skills and recall basic mathematical facts.

Science/Health: The study the earth, space, living things, human body, motion, energy and matter. Process skills: hypothesizing, predicting, measuring, experimenting, models, observing, inferring, classifying, identifying, collecting, communicating and defining.

| Second Grade |
Language Arts: How to use the mechanics of grammar in writing. Parts of speech, subject/action, capitalization, homophones, using thesaurus, writing process, combining sentences, personal narrative, poetry, alphabetical order, parts of the book. Listening skills, oral and written book reports. The student swill be able to systematically decode, pronounce, and spell lists of words directly involving the phonics skills learned.

Arithmetic: The study of basic arithmetic facts and drills to acquire mastery of computation and problem-solving skills. Process by study and mastery of solving story problems, understanding place value, geometry, Roman numerals, graphs, telling time, beginning fractions, and measuring units.

Science/Health: Study of the history of the earth, theories, fossils, oceans, movement, plants, bones, muscles, forces, light, shadows, measuring length. Bible: Focus on salvation through Jesus Christ and the building of Godly characteristics in students through specific Bible characters, with tools for evangelism.

Language Arts: Parts of speech, abbreviations, subject, predicate, types of sentences, compound subject/predicate, diagramming. Mechanics – capitalization, homophones, pronoun reference, subject/verb agreement. Using thesaurus, planning with a word web, Venn diagram, proofreading, game instructions, persuasive essay, book reports, poetry, and research report and compare-contrast essay. Alphabetical order, encyclopedia, atlas, library, taking notes. Listening skills, introductions, speaking tips.

Arithmetic: The study of basic arithmetic facts and processes, solving addition and subtraction by checking, borrowing and carrying. Checking multiplication and division. Solving story problems, metric and English measures, Roman numerals, geometry, terminology, multiplication and division facts from 1 – 12. Students will master averaging numbers, solving simple equation, convert measurements, parenthesis, and solve economic problems.

Language Arts: The study of parts of speech, sentence structure, mechanics of grammar and the usage of homophones, pronoun reference, subject/verb agreement, proper nouns, verbs. Writing skills – using a thesaurus, planning with word webs, opinion charts, plot pyramid, t-charts, Venn diagram, outline, revising, proofreading, preparing a bibliography. Writing projects – personal narrative, letters, compare-contrast essay, book review, poetry, haiku, research report. Bible: God’s plan of salvation focusing on character qualities of Christ and how these qualities can be applied to build character in our lives. The study of Heaven, the beginning of sin, the sacrifice for sin, the resurrection, God’s desire for us to grow spiritually, and attributes of Jesus’ character and the call to be like Him.

History: 1769 – 1903 – Doors of Opportunity – nineteenth century America. The students will study hemispheres, exploration of North and South Pole, immigration, the fifty states with an emphasis on Texas History, the American Industrial Revolution, pony express, inventions and Spanish -American War.

Celsius scale to Fahrenheit scale and reverse, solving algebraic equations, graphs, scale drawings, ordered pairs, reading charts and schedules, perimeter and area, squares and square roots, estimation, and review of basic math processes.

Bible: The 5th grade Bible course presents an overview of the Old Testament with an in-depth study of the lives of various Bible characters presented in chronological order, and choices made by these characters that can be applied to our lives. The salvation message is woven throughout the course.
