Academics

As the Dean of Academic Affairs, I welcome you to Rosehill Christian School. It is with excitement and thanksgiving that we look at all that God has done here at Rosehill. Rosehill is a Christian school that prepares students for life through academic excellence, outstanding extra-curricular activities, and a challenge to know and serve God. We are committed to providing excellence in quality Christ-centered education as an extension of the Christian home.

Rosehill Christian High School, with students in grades 9 – 12, stresses rigor, relevance and relationships in its daily curriculum and teacher-student interactions. Academically, it boasts a cutting-edge integration of technology and instruction. All students own Mac laptops and bring them to each class to engage in learning projects which require use of on-line resources for information-gathering and presentation, for forum discussions and problem-solving, and for project-based learning across multiple subject areas. Our on-line learning community, allows students access to classroom instruction, forums, on-line resources and links, and textbooks, 24-7. Several courses are offered strictly on-line, and that number is increasing regularly.

Students in grades 11 and 12 who qualify are able to earn dual-credit (both high school and college credit simultaneously) through RCS and Lonestar College for courses such as English, biology, college algebra, and macro-economics. These courses are taught by RCS teachers who have the qualifications to be adjunct professors at Lonestar College. If a student is able to take advantage of all the dual-credit offerings at RCS, he will finish high school with up to 32 hours of college credit that is transferrable to any state university in Texas and most private and out-of-state institutions as well.

In spiritual matters, Rosehill Christian High School offers a four-year Bible curriculum which covers important issues such as the infallibility and trustworthiness of the scriptures, a hermeneutic approach to studying the Bible, personal discipleship, application of the scriptures, and a comparison of Christian vs. non-Christian worldviews. Committed believers serve on the faculty and present all classroom instruction in the context of a Christian worldview. Students are also required to become the hands and feet of Jesus through community service projects throughout their high school career.

On the athletic field and court, RCS athletes excel, with competition advancing to the district, regional and state level in numerous sports. RCS has had 85 students named to all-state teams since 2000. During the 2011 school year, the Lady Eagles Basketball Team won the State 3A championship.  Yet, each one of them is consistently reminded by the coaching staff that they are student-athletes, with an emphasis on the value of academics as well as athletics. Some of our graduate athletes attend colleges and universities on athletic scholarships.

Middle school students at RCS are making the transition from elementary to high school by increasing expectations for their academic performance and personal responsibility for learning. Writing and reading skills are refined throughout the curriculum, and mathematical and scientific knowledge and techniques are stressed. The middle school Bible curriculum includes a multi-sensory overview of both the Old and New Testaments. RCS middle school students emerge with an impressive familiarity with important Biblical figures and locations which is often the envy of the adults in their lives. Middle school athletes are instructed in the fundamentals of their chosen sport, are led by knowledgeable, dedicated coaches to experience the value and camaraderie of “team,” and have attained notable success in their athletic endeavors.

The Elementary School of RCS (grades K – 5) serves as an invaluable foundation for future success in learning. These younger students are guided by Christ-like teachers to master the fundamentals of reading, writing, and mathematics in an atmosphere permeated with a deep appreciation for scripture. Small group instruction in reading and mathematics allows students to be challenged based upon their academic potential and progress.   The 6+1 Traits of Writing are implemented to insure that RCS students can express themselves through their writing.  Elementary students are engaged in the Eagle Challenge, a program to “catch ‘em doing good,” with rewards each 9-weeks.
