Lower School News

    from the Principal:

“Death and Life are in the power of the tongue” – Proverbs 18:21

Did you know?

The Talmud asks:  Which is worse, to steal from someone or to speak ill of someone?  Property can be restored, but the damage done to the person can never be undone.  In fact, Jewish tradition compares slander and humiliation with murder.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow top dogs.

Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

The above words are from The Paradoxical Commandments by Kent M. Keith, but it sounds like something Jesus would do.  Just a thought…..

Character development in the lower grades is a high priority.  The pillars of good character are:

  • trustworthiness,
  • respect for others,
  • responsibility,
  • fairness,
  • caring, and
  • Citizenship

Please join us in supporting programs like Honor Roll Recognition, Awards Day, and Wall of Fame for students of the month.  This month’s character qualities are truthfulness and kindness.  Jessica Martin was our student of the month for March and we are gearing down for the countdown for student of the month recognition for April.  On May 21st the Lower School, grades 1st – 5th will honor all students for exemplifying Christian character.  There will be a formal ceremony for this occasion beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the gym.  Stay tuned for more details to come forth from classroom newsletters, emails, and flyers.

FIELD DAY 2008

The Run and Jump Relay was a great challenge but Gordon Kulbeck (5th grade), Annie Pearce (1st grade) and Meghan Dauterive (3rd grade) were up for it!

Froelich smile for the camera!                                  if this teacher was smiling. Maybe                                                                                             Miss Rohrer knows.  Hmmm!

Congratulations to Ms. Carlene's Pre-K4 class, Mrs. Davila's 2nd grade class, and Mrs. Newell's 5th grade class for outstanding Godly character during Field Day.  These students exemplified good sportsmanship and had a lot of team spirit.  They were awarded an ice cream party.  Coach "M"ylius was proud of all the teams!

The Kindergarten and First grade students had a wonderful time during their field trip to see the play “Beauty and the Beast.”  The play provided a wonderful experience for the children and all who attended.  We were reminded that it is more important to know someone’s heart, instead of focusing on their outward appearance.

The first graders would also like to thank Kingdom Dog Ministries for the special chapel service last week.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.

The 2nd graders went to the zoo on April 22, 2008 to learn more about animal habitats.  This also happened to be Earth Day, and the zoo took the wraps off a solar array that will supply power to the African Lion exhibit.  Our students joined with “Super Earth”, Green Mountain Energy Company’s mascot to "flip" a huge oversized electric switch to help mark the start of solar power at the Lion exhibit.  It was very exciting!

The 2nd graders also culminated the end of reading Pippi Longstocking with a Pippi Party. Each student was allowed to dress as a character from the book and we had some fabulous costumes. Pippi herself made a guest appearance along with her monkey, Mr. Neilson and the horse from her porch. The students were invited to a special lunch in the library. The lunch menu was consisted of food the characters ate in the book. This was the first of this annual event. Everyone had a great time!

Third Grade

Third grade students have created 3D barn scenes and clay animals to go with Charlotte’s Web. We are also having a Banana Split Club in which they read books and provide specialized book reports to “make” their banana splits. The students will celebrate with a banana split party on May 19 by receiving the part of the banana split that was made by the reports.

To enhance their study of Texas History, the fourth graders recently went on a field trip to The Taste of Texas Restaurant in Houston.  It was a great time for all!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

Dear Parents,

Due to the overwhelming request I get for copies of the pictures I take during the games and the fact that it takes a long time to go through all my pictures to give you the ones you request from me, I now have a web site which will allow you to view and order pictures.

I have signed up with this site for a year. I will continue to place pictures on here for as long as I keep taking them and as long as this does not start costing me money to keep this site. I do enjoying taking pictures and sharing them with you.

Thank you for being patient with me and I hope this web site will make the process easier and more efficient for everyone.
