Chapel
Yesterday at chapel our speaker was Major Cliff Wilson. Cliff is a Major in the Air Force Reserves and also a Captain with Southwest Airlines. He spoke to us about how we always see things greener on the other side of the "pasture". He encouraged the students by telling them how blessed they are to be here at Rosehill and this is a time in their life where they should not only be learning about Christ but also maturing in Christ. He read a letter from a former student of his who had recently joined the Navy. This new sailor didn't realize how good he had it in his small Christian school until he graduated and became a sailor. He shared that this young man is learning how to rely on God. This sailor is also discovering what it means to be a light within the darkness. He understands what Christ was saying in Matthew 5:13-16(see verses below) as he shares his faith with a Buddhist sailor. The students enjoyed his message and we hope Major Wilson can come and speak to us again.
Matthew 5:13-16-(The Message) "Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. 14-16"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven
