Lower School News

    from the Principal:

Did you know?

Prior to 1960 there were relatively few Christian schools in existence.  After experiencing a steep decline in moral standards in the 60’s and 70’s, the mood of our nation was reflected by the action of removing school prayer and Bible reading.  The result caused a number of Christians to examine the education of their children and pastors across the country to preach and teach about education being consistent with biblical standards.  In a nutshell, this standard became the modern Christian school movement.

This month’s Christian character theme is obedience.  In obedience to following the standard that has been set before us, let us make this year a great year, not only keeping the standard high, but actually raising the bar, so to speak.  As we reflect on the Christian school movement and the impact that this has on our history, it becomes clear that we are part of a thing much bigger than ourselves.

“Be not conformed to this world:  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).…

Kindergarten Corner

The Kindergartens are in full swing!  They have done a GREAT job of settling into their new routines and learning class procedures.  They enjoy attending their weekly specials: P.E., Art, Computer, Spanish, and Music.  During Chapel, they are doing an excellent job reciting their memory verse, and singing praises to our Glorious King.  I’m sure they put a smile on Jesus’ face as he hears his precious children!

Fanstastic 1st Grade

Last week, first graders learned about the wonder of God’s creation.  We made creation bags to show what God created every day of the week.  We also learned what it meant to find rest in God using His example on the seventh day.

Splendid 2nd Grade

This week second grade made pudding to discuss the differences between evolution and creation.  Can pudding mix and milk go together all by itself and magically make pudding?  No, it has to have a creator, and so did the earth.

2nd Grade's Special Visitor

Mr. Grantom came to speak to 2nd grade about fire fighting methods of the present and we compared them to fire fighting methods of the past.

Mr. Grantom showed us all the gear and discussed what to do if you are ever caught in a fire.

THANK YOU MR. GRANTOM FOR YOUR VISIT TO 2ND GRADE!!!!!

Thriving 3rd Grade

The 3rd grade has been discussing the difference between occupation and ministry in Bible. We learned that some of us are extremely blessed to be able to combine the two with occupations that allow us to minister. Also in Bible, the students are memorizing the Roman’s Road to Salvation in their memory verses. They are hiding God’s word in their hearts so they are able to use His word in leading others to Christ.

Fabulous 4th and 5th Grade

This past Friday the teacher’s were part of a writing workshop offered by Dr. Bill Bridges who is with the Sam Houston Writing Project.  The elementary teachers enjoyed an active workshop where we learned how to engage our young writer’s and make their writing excerpts more descriptive and specific.  This week I taught the concept in both the 4th and 5th grade classrooms during our English class as we began to start a new unit of writing.  4th graders are focusing on Haiku and Acrostic poetry and 5th graders are learning about Diamante’s and A Sense Poem.  Here are some examples of student writing that showed to be much more exciting to read than what I asked from them.

4th graders Sentence:  The animal walked into the cage.

“The white tiger angrily dashed into the big cage.”  - Zachary Spears

“The skinny black dog pranced into the red cage.” – Austin Shaver

“The big, hairy lion dashed into the dark and scary cage.”  - Jeffrey Dimicelli

“The aggressive lion shimmied into the jail-like cave.” – Sion Firew

“The hungry horse sadly shuffled into the stall.” – Cassidy Kelly

“The fast cheetah dashed into the gigantic cage.” – Miranda Schot

“The chubby monkey discoed into the tiny cage.” – Andrew Case

5th graders Sentence:  The person entered the room.

“The intelligent police officer breathtakingly sprinted into the abandoned house.” – Paxton Martin

“The gleeful investigator entered the auditorium with a box of dynamite and a match.” – Julianne Froelich

“The fireman insanely jumped into the fancy closet.” – Britain Beets

“The crazy teacher dangerously crashed into the junky classroom.” – Hailey Juneau

“The crazy paramedic insanely danced into the pink, magical closet.” – Madison Miller

It's Crazy...Crazy Hair Day!!!

The 4th and 5th graders get to enjoy a very special day on the last Friday of each month.  This past Friday in August, it was Crazy Hair Day!  I don’t know for sure, but I would certainly say these kiddos “let their hair down!”
